Dominique-Rene de Lerma

Dominique-RenedeLermaLeaning.jpgDominique-Rene de Lerma (1928–2015) studied oboe with Marcel Tabuteau for a short time in 1949 withdrawing to continue his work in music theory at the University of Miami where he was an undergraduate. After receiving his bachelor’s degree at the University, he joined the School of Music faculty. He then pursued graduate study at Indiana University receiving his Ph.D. degree in 1956. He specialized in music by composers of African descent and has published over 1000 works on music. In an article published by Woodwind World in March of 1974 by de Lerma titled ‘Toward a Concept of Tabuteau’s Phrasing,’ de Lerma discusses some aspects of the Tabuteau System:
