Aaron Rosand (1927-2019) studied violin at the Curtis Institute of Music with Efrem Zimbalist, graduating in 1948, and was a member of the violin faculty from 1981 until 2019. He enjoyed a long and successful concert career having recorded prolifically and appearing all over the world with numerous major orchestras and concert organizations. While at Curtis in the 1940s, he attended many of Tabuteau’s string classes and performed in the Curtis Orchestra under Tabuteau’s direction. He told Laila Storch in 1999 that: “The most profound influence in my life was working with Tabuteau.” In a 1997 interview with Sarah Maude Wetherbee, he spoke of Tabuteau’s famous pearl analogy that he still utilizes in his teaching.
